Highlights

During this tour we will explore artefacts from the museum’s collection, and our tour guide will share the history and stories behind these objects.

People

In this tour we will be uncovering the stories of people from Wantage’s history. Find out what impact these people may have had on the town.

 

Group tours are available on weekday afternoons during term time.

Tours will start at 1.30pm.

Minimum of 8 people required and a maximum of 20 people. Groups of more than 10 people will be split into two smaller groups to to keep the experience more enjoyable and manageable.

Cost: £7.50 per person.

Talks

Wicked Wantage (previously called Black Wantage)

In the early 19th Century Wantage was known as a ‘sink of iniquity’ full of drunks, murderers and thieves. But was it really any different from other market towns at that time?

Wheelwrights

“If you’ve got it – it probably came on wheels!” The story of the most significant, and most ubiquitous, invention in human history, and the men who made them.

Tramway

Find out the history of Wantage Tramway and the people and businesses that used it.

 

Group talks are available on weekday afternoons during term time.

Talks will begin at 1.30pm.

Maximum of 24 people.

Cost: £7.50 per person.

The Museum Cafe are able to provide the following:

  • Tea or filter coffee, a selection of sandwiches with either a) slice of cake, b) fruit/plain scone, c) cheese scone – £10.50 per person
  • Traditional cream tea for one. One plain or fruit scone with jam, clotted cream and a pot of tea – £6.10 each
  • Savoury cream tea for one. One cheese scone with cream cheese, chutney and a pot of tea – £6.10 each

Must be preordered.

All our scones are suitable for vegetarians. Vegan and vegetarian sandwich options are available, please speak to us when booking.
